I’m a pretty “traditional” traveler: I don’t want to miss the pleasure to hold a map in my hand, and I usually prefer to buy train tickets in the station. Even so, I must admit that, lately – due to my curiosity but also to a need – I’ve gave up to technology and I started to use travel apps. Although I deeply believe that some apps are not only useless but also problematic, I can’t deny that others have definitely improved the quality of my travels. Without too much beating about the bush, my point is that as in every other aspect of life, even during a travel digital apps make everything easier, faster and more intuitive than before.
So, let’s see which are the 3 best travel apps, free and also working offline.
1. CURRENCY
If, just like me, you are not particularly suited for mental and fast mathematical operations, or if you do not want to waste too much time doing calculations, Currency is the app for you. You just need to open the app, set the starting currency and the one to convert to (operation to be done only the first time, then the data will remain saved), enter the amount to be converted and you will automatically have the answer on your screen.
Seriously, it couldn’t be simpler than this. Currency calculates while you enjoy your trip!
2. WIFI FINDER
If you are around the city all day long, or if your accommodation doesn’t have a good internet connection, with WiFi Finder (which works offline, of course) you can see all the nearby Wifi networks. It’s a kind of radar that in a simple diagram shows all the networks classifying them according to the distance and the need of a password.
3. MAPS.ME
Maps.Me is, without any doubt, my favorite travel app, the one I could never ever give up during my trips. Before leaving, you need to download the map of your destination through the app. Maps.Me allows you to directly pin points of reference of the city on the map, marking them by color and customising them with notes. Once in place, by activating the GPS of your device, the map will show you where you are and how you move too. It will be impossible to get lost even in the largest and most chaotic place.
These are my favourite travel apps. I have studied, tested and used them, and I can say they do a very good job, making your life on the road easier.
