Every city in the world has got its own beauty, that could be more or less attractive, but if you are a travel lover like me, you will agree that every single city in the world deserves a visit.

To visit Seville is an intense experience. It could be because of the weather always warm, the people, smiling and welcoming, the lifestyle, so quite and relaxing. Or all these ingredients mixed together.

Here are 3 reasons why you will fall in love with Seville.

Food

Food – in general – is one of the most important part of a culture. And Seville perfectly reflects its history and traditions in food.

First of all, in the size.

Tapas are small portions, perfect to go with a beer or a tinto de verano (the typical drink made of red wine and soda) for a snack. Besides restaurants and pubs, in Seville you will find tapas bar and bodegas, where you will taste the perfect, authentic tapas.

There are too many typical delicious dishes in Seville to choose from. Gazpacho is something very traditional: a cold dense soup made of vegetables, perfect during the hot summer days in Seville. Another “must” is the Tortilla de Patatas, a huge sort of omelette full of potatoes, thick, salty and delicious. Last but not least the Spanish Jamón Ibérico, a special ham very famous and appreciated by locals and tourists.

Choosing to visit Seville for its food will not disappoint anyone!

Be careful with Paella: it’s not typically from Seville and it’s often used as a “tourist trap”.

Celebrations

Seville seems to be made to host celebrations and festivals. In each period of the year you will find some big celebration.

One of the most important is Semana Santa. Full of rooted and devoted brotherhoods, during the entire Easter week people from Seville crowd the city to enjoy its procession with passion and faith, showing typical religious costumes and characters, walking through the city accompanying the major Virgins of Seville. It’s something very very characteristic, and I highly recommend you to visit Seville during this period.

Two weeks after the Semana Santa, they celebrate the “Feria de Abril“.

The booths (casetas) and the lanterns (farolillos) fill the fair enclosure to welcome Sevillians and visitors in an atmosphere that floods the entire city with celebration and happiness. Currently, the Feria boasts more than a thousand booths, where people typically dressed spend the time dancing sevillanas (a type of flamenco) and drinking rebujito.

More than these two most important festivities, in Seville they celebrate the 5th of January with the “Cabalgata de Reyes Magos“, a big parade particularly exciting for children, and a little bit before the Feria it starts the bull-fighting season in Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, the specific arena for this hobby.

Furthermore, every neighborhood in Seville celebrates its own festivity; one of the most spectacular is the Santa Ana celebration, in Triana neighborhood, each summer.

Style

Every street in the centre of Seville shows the history of the city.

Its culture, that preserves the Arabic influence of the past, is mixed with the European style of the present in a perfect harmonious bond. This unique feature makes Seville wonderful and you will feel it in the air.

The Cathedral is the perfect example of this cultural coexistence: paying attention to its architecture, you will realize that it used to be a Mosque and nobody tried to hide this fact; The Giralda, the bell tower of the Cathedral and one of the emblems of the city, was the Minaret.

Plaza de España is an art masterpiece, and will let you feel like in a painting, surrounded by the extraordinary beauty of bricks, marble and ceramics shapes and colors.

The decorations in the Reales Alcázares, mixing both arabic and christian elements, will throw you in another era – when Arabic governors used to spend their holidays there – and in a moment will bring you back to the present, showing children playing in these gardens, old couples walking in these buildings, young people relaxing on these benches.

If you have not visited Seville yet, you should.

You will surely fall in love but – guess what? – it will never break your heart. That’s the reason why local people are so proud about their city. That’s because – like a famous Spanish song says – “Sevilla tiene un color especial”.
