When I was planning my travel to Sofia, a lot of friends of me that were already been there, highly recommended to take part in the Free Sofia Tour.

As we arrived in Sofia in the early afternoon, I thought that it was a nice way to spend the rest of the day so, with my boyfriend, we decided to give it a chance.

The Free Sofia Tour, organized by 365 – a non profit association – starts every day at 11 am and 6 pm from the Palace of Justice of Sofia.

The really cool thing is that reservations are not required: the tour will be set always, no matter the weather conditions or how many people are partecipating. You just need to be at the Palace of Justice at that time and you are in! 😀

They only recommend to contact them in advance if you are an organized group of ten or more people.

The guides are young people living in Sofia that drive you in a 2 hours walk through more than 35 places in the Sofia centre.

As the name says, the tour is completely free, they just ask you for a free offer for the organization at the end of the tour. For this reason, it’s not expected to enter in the places they show you, but just watch them from the outside, listening the history and then, if you are curious, you plan your own visit.

This is a very interesting point. How many time did you hear something really involving about a place and, once you visited it, it was completely disappointing?

The Free Sofia Tour allows you to have a general and complete idea about the city and its main attractions, so that you can decide what to deepen and what is not on your interest.

This is the reason why we decided to participate in the tour during our first day in Sofia.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side: it was raining a lot and we were a bit uncomfortable. But Dimitar, our guide, was so good trying to make us comfortable, finding places where we could protect from the rain and keeping the tour going until the end, even if with some deviations.

He told us a lot of interesting stories about Sofia, catching our attention and interest, and guiding us through the main city attractions.

I have to confess: I was enchanted about this initiative.

It’s a great way for welcoming people in Sofia, giving them informations about the city, recommending places to visit, restaurant where to eat, parks where to have a relaxing walk.

I would have loved to participate in such a tour in every city I visited!

So guys, if you are planning to visit the Bulgarian Capital please, do yourself a favor: take part in the Free Sofia Tour! 😀
