Getting around Perugia is not particularly complicated: the city is not very large but it’s quite extensive and, in addition to the city buses, you can find a particular means of transport: the minimetrò.

Minimetrò in Perugia is a rail system elevated above the street: a kind of “roller coaster” in the middle of the city. 🙂

fermateThe stops

Minimetrò in Perugia consists of one line which connects the historic center of Perugia with the western suburbs, passing through the Fontivegge railway station.

The minimetrò stops are 7, all numbered and well marked: Pincetto (1), Cupa (2), Burn Houses (3), Fontivegge (4), Madonna Alta (5), Cortona (6) and Pian di Massiano (7).

The ticket

The minimetrò ticket can be purchased at the ticket machine in each station and it’s valid also for using the city buses.

A single journey ticket (70 minutes validity) costs 1.50 euro. If you know you’re going to use the minimetrò several times, you can buy a daily ticket (24 hours validity) paying 5.40 euro, or a multiple 10 trips ticket for 12,90 euro.

Timetables

Minimetrò is open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 9pm, Sundays and public holidays from 9am to 9pm.

However, it’s useful to consult the official website for any changes.

vistaFor getting around Perugia, minimetrò is an extremely practical and functional way, waiting times are very minimal and, in my opinion, is also a very special tourist attraction, which includes an unique scenic view of the historic center of the city.  🙂
