Going up and down in Lisbon (if you have already been in Lisbon, you know what I mean) it’s not difficult to bump into breathtaking viewpoints in the highest areas of the city. These viewpoints in Lisbon are called “miradouro”: they are common small squares overlooking the city or terraces offering privileged views.
Here are the best viewpoints in Lisbon.
MIRADOURO DO ARCO DA RUA AUGUSTA
This neoclassical arch is in the heart of Lisbon, and it links Rua Augusta to Praça do Comércio. The miradouro on the top of this monument is accessible through a 70-step spiral staircase, and it offers a breathtaking views on the city center.

MIRADOURO DO PADRÃO DOS DESCOBRIMENTO
The Monument of the Discoveries is one of the Lisbon’s symbols and it’s really impressive! Even more impressive is the miradouro on the top of the monument, that offers a complete view of the whole city, particularly of the neighborhood of Belém, the Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the estuary of the Tagus river.
You can find the opening hours on the official website of the monument and the entrance fee is 5 Euros (3.50 Euros for Lisboa Card holders).

This viewpoint is right on top of the famous Santa Justa Lift (Elevador de Santa Justa). You can go up the elevator (paying a 5.15 Euros ticket, or for free with the Lisboa Card), or you can access the viewpoint through the specific entrance in Largo da Carmo (paying a 1.50 Euros fee, or for free with the Lisboa Card). The view on the Baixa neighborhood is spectacular, and although it is not the tallest spot in the city, you can admire the Castle and, just a few meters away, the ruins of the Carmo church.
MIRADOURO DO PANTEÃO NACIONAL
Saint Engrácia Church, also known as National Pantheon, is worth a visit just for its amazing architecture. The huge white dome culminates in one of the most scenic spots in Lisbon, and is accessed through a long staircase, and offers one of Lisbon’s most spectacular panoramic views.
The entrance fee is 4 Euro, but it’s free with the Lisboa Card.
