There are too many not to miss experiences in Marrakech. It’s the heart of Morocco and it’s a destinations that can leave you breathless and with an immense boost of energy at the same time. If you want to fully live the charm of Moroccan traditions, I recommend you three things that, in my opinion, are not miss experiences in Marrakech.

Stay in a Riad

One of the most traditional things to do in Marrakech is to stay in a Riad, the typical Moroccan house with and interior courtyard. It’s very important to be careful in your choice because, even if they all are very beautiful, some of them are not so organized for tourists.

In any case, in the Marrakech Medina you will find a lot of Riad, different for size, comfort and management.

During my stay, I choose a very little Riad, managed by a local family, that was not excellent but pretty fine about comfort and price. Durin my stay the Riad was never full of hosts and I was so lucky to attend a very big party the family organized for the owner’s son return from Mecca; it’sa very important moment for Moroccan religious people. And it was an unique and unforgettable moment during my trip.

Get lost in a Souk

Marrakech Souks are so colorful and busy to let you feel amazed. The best thing you can do is to forget the time and fully enjoy the uniqueness of souks. And shopping, of course! You will be overwhelmed by lamps, carpets, mirrors, babouche slippers, scarfs, bags, jewelery and anything you can imagine. Don’t be afraid to buy anything you want (the merchandise is very typical and cheap) but do not forget to barter, even if you’re ok with the initial price: it’s a must in Moroccan Souks.

Have dinner in Jemaa el Fna

This square is the heart of Marrakech, the real heart: it pulsates with people. It’s so bright, noisy and full that sometimes it could seems too much. But it’s a place that you cannot avoid, not only because is the center of Marrakech, but also because you will eat the most tasty and local food. There are so many street food stalls! You just need to choose your favourite, take a seet in the pews and get your hands dirty of food. It’s a moment that you cannot avoid if you really want to experience the authentic atmosphere of Marrakech.

Visit the Jardin Majorelle

Not everybody know that, out of the Medina, there’s a little natural paradise, the Majorelle Garden, where I couldn’t not recommend you a visit.

The French painter Jacque Majorelle dedicated forty years to create this garden, that is a enchanting mix of art, nature and tradition.

In addition to enjoy the wonderful gardens and collections of cacti, exotic plants and trees, you can visit the Berber Museum, the Love Gallery, the Boutique Majorelle and the Yves Saint Laurent Memorial. The fashion designer, indeed, was very inspired by the Majorelle Garden and in 1980 he bought the entire complex with his partner Pierre Bergé and he spent there the rest of their lives.

It’s a little oasi of peace that you can’t miss to spend some relaxing time during your visit to the city.

Marrakech is a dream destination: it is rich in history, art, nature and culture. I really recommend to fully enjoy it, so that you can appreciate its real beauty and why not, come back in the future.
